AIMS OF THE COURSE:
These qualifications have been designed with practical and engaging ways of teaching in mind and enable learners to:
• develop a range of skills through involvement in sport and physical activity in different contexts and roles;
• develop their ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations;
• gain a better understanding of the complexity of different areas of sport and the sports industry;
• increase their awareness of different ways to stay involved in sport and physical activity and of different careers and roles within sport.

WHAT DO I NEED TO STUDY THE COURSE?
Anyone who has a genuine interest in Sport and Physical Activity. Pupils should be participating in physical activity outside of school. On this course they will improve their leadership, communication, strategical thinking and planning as well as increasing their knowledge about sport, physical activity and leisure. This award will not only provide a pathway to access to further education but will also help develop many skills that will invaluable in the work place.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?
The Sports Studies course looks at topics connected to the different types of sporting and physical activity. This includes how sports are organised and also the different roles available in them. There are two compulsory units on Contemporary Issues in Sport and Developing Sports Skills and two extra units based on Sports Leadership and Developing Skills in Outdoor Activities. Much of this course is taught in a practical way.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
25% practical coursework / 50% written coursework / 25% theoretical examination.

WHERE CAN IT LEAD?
Upon completion you will be able to complete further studies on the Cambridge Technical Level 3 in Sport (equivalent to 1 A Level). This can lead to careers such as Coaching, Teaching and Instructing; Instructing Physical Activity and Exercise; Achieving Excellence in Sports Performance; Leisure Management; Sports Development; Armed Forces; Emergency Services; Outdoor Education, Development Training or Recreation; Physiotherapist; Referee/Umpire; Sport/Fitness instructor; Dietician/Nutritionist.
